Introduction to the Labcut 250XY Abrasive Cutting Machine
A Cutting Machine using up to 250mm/10in cutting with an automated XY worktable

The Labcut 250XY is a versatile cutting machine which in its basic form uses an XY worktable with a powered drive into the cutting wheel. In this way long samples or xxxx. It is a compact unit which is constructed as a floor standing unit with a base cabinet containing the coolant tank. One or two quick lock vices can be fitted to hold the material or special fixtures can be supplied. The standard canopy has 3 large viewing windows for all round viewing of the cutting process. One option available for the Labcut 250XY converts it into a standard Labcut 250 with quicklock vices and side lever to raise/lower the head whilst preserving basic functions of the XY machine.

Cutting Head

The 12.7mm/1/2in diameter spindle is belt driven by a powerful 2.2KW/3HP 3 Phase motor. The long life sealed spindle bearings do not require lubrication. The cutting head can be clamped at a suitable height so that the sample can be driven through the cutting blade. Abrasive or Diamond Cutting Blades up to 250mm/10in can be fitted. Adapters are provided for 32mm/1 1/4in wheel hole size. The standard wheel speed is set at 4000 rpm, other belt and pulley combinations give different wheel speeds for particular applications. An optional inverter can be fitted for variable speed between 2000 and 5000 rpm.

Mounted on the the XY work table is a vice holding a sample. The work table is powered so that the sample moves into the cutting wheel

Work Table

The XY work table has a movement of 100mm/4in in the X direction and 100mm/4in in the Y direction (into the cutting wheel.) A DC motor drives the stage in the Y direction at a speed which can be varied to suit the cutting process. e T slots for fitting the 2 quick lock vices. The vices have 63mm/2 1/2in capacity. The side access ports in the canopy can be used for passing long bars of large dia. through the vices.

Electronics

The electronics are contained in a lockable compartment fixed to the rear panel. The front control panel has switching for the various machine functions. These include Power Indicator, Cutting Head Motor ON/OFF , Coolant Pump ON/OFF, Interior Light ON/OFF. The front panel switching is low voltage.

Canopy

The canopy is safety interlocked and cannot be opened whilst the wheel is running. It has a large front viewing windows and 2 side windows. Access ports on both sides of the canopy are provided for cutting long bars of material.

Coolant Circulation

The machine can be used for wet or dry cutting. An external coolant circulating tank is provided for the bench top model. For the floor standing unit this coolant tank is located in the base cabinet. The 55l/min circulation pump ensures adequate supply of coolant in the cutting area.

  • It comprises: coolant tank, pump, delivery and drain tubes (shown in base cabinet)

  • flexible coolant jets in area of cutting

  • wash down hose provided

  • Note in cases where heavy sludge is produced during cutting a paper band filter unit is available as an option

4. Conversion for conventional cutting:

The XY Stage can be simply removed and RH & LH quick-lok vices fitted -capacity is 63mm/2.5in. The head is released and a side lever used to raise/lower the cutting head
